Inspired by the Work of William Shakespeare
Contributors to this one-night-only benefit event include: Tony and Drama Desk award-winners Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza, Floyd Collins) and William Finn (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A New Brain, Falsettos), two time Tony-nominated actor Terrence Mann (Lennon, The Rocky Horror Show, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast, Jerome Robbins' Broadway Les Miserables, Cats, Barnum), the creative duo of Amanda Green & Tom Kitt (High Fidelity), MAC and Bistro award-winner Zina Goldrich (upcoming Broadway production of Ever After, the cabaret staple Taylor, the Latte Boy), MAC award-nominated Steve Marzullo (Audra McDonald's I Hid My Love, and Somedays), Pulitzer Prize, Drama Desk and Tony award-winning author Marsha Norman (Night Mother, The Secret Garden, The Color Purple), and Tony award-winning and Grammy award-nominated composer Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening).
Scheduled performers include: Will Chase (High Fidelity, Lennon, The Full Monty, Aida, Rent Miss Saigon), Bradley Dean (Company, Man of La Mancha, Jane Eyre), two time Tony-nominated actor Brian d'Arcy James (The Apple Tree, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sweet Smell of Success, Titanic, Carousel, Blood Brothers),
David Miller (member of the triple-platinum operatic pop quartet Il Divo, Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann's production of Puccini's La Boheme, Metropolitan Opera's La Traviata),
Tony-nominated actor Matthew Morrison (The Light in the Piazza, Hairspray, The Rocky Horror Show, Footloose), Q. Smith (Les Miserables, Smokey Joe's Café w/Gladys Knight, Fame), and Rachel Ulanet (Lovemusik, Beauty and the Beast). Terrence Mann and Duncan Sheik will also perform their original material.
Music Direction is by Kevin Stites, internationally known for his expert work on Les Miserables, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, Titanic, among others. Our hostess extraordinaire for the evening is singer, actress, and satirist, New York’s own Christine Pedi of Forbidden Broadway fame as well as Talk Radio, and HBO’s The Sopranos. Douglas Braverman, whose humor has been published in New York Magazine and The Washington Post, will provide lyrics for a custom parody to showcase Christine.

Sonnet Repertory Theatre (SRT) announces the lineup for "Sonnet Sings: The Bard," the company's annual benefit event. Scheduled performers include: two time Tony-nominated actor Terrence Mann and Tony award-winning and Grammy award-nominated composer Duncan Sheik, performing their original songs, in addition to Will Chase, Bradley Dean, Brian D'Arcy James,
David Miller, Brandon Wardell, Q. Smith, and Rachel Ulanet.
Contributing composers include: Tony and Drama Desk award-winners Adam Guettel, William Finn, plus Amanda Green and Tom Kitt, MAC and Bistro award-winner Zina Goldrich, MAC Award-nominated Steve Marzullo, Pulitzer Prize, and Drama Desk and Tony award-winning author Marsha Norman.
With "Sonnet Sings: The Bard," for the first time ever as part of its annual fundraiser, SRT will debut original songs, inspired by Shakespeare's cannon. SRT, a non-profit company dedicated to classic theatre for the modern planet, plans to focus its annual benefit gala on exploring classic playwrights' work through original song, relying on future inspiration from such greats as Moliere, Chekhov, Ibsen and Shaw.
"Sonnet Sings: The Bard" features the musical direction of Kevin Stites, recognized for his work on Broadway's Les Miserables, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, Titanic, among others. The evening will be hosted by Drama Desk award-nominated and MAC award-winning actress and singer, Christine Pedi. Douglas Braverman will provide lyrics for a custom parody to showcase PEDI.
